A ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) authorized on Tuesday (5) the release of R$ 250 million to CCEE (Electric Energy Commercialization Chamber) to cover the tariff discounts granted to consumers benefiting from the social tariff, provided for in the MP (Provisional Measure) 950/2020.

This is the second installment of the transfer. The first, worth R$400 million, was released in April. The third installment, of R$250 million, will be transferred in June.

According to the MP, the discount will be 100% for the portion of electricity consumption of up to 220 kWh/month for beneficiaries of the social tariff. Also according to the standard, the Union is authorized to transfer resources to cover these discounts due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

In parallel, the MP 949 / 2020 added to the budget of ANEEL extraordinary credit of R$900 million and determined that the Agency would contribute this resource to the CDE (Energy Development Account) to subsidize the authorized discounts.
