Banco do Brasil announced the results of the tenders for the provision of services for photovoltaic energy plants. The tender foresees contracts that could reach R$37 million, with a term of 15 years for the construction and rental of the plants.
The contracts awarded energy generation in three different states. In the Federal District, 3 GWh/year of energy was contracted, enough for 4 branches; 30 GWh/year in Goiás, enough for 2 branches; and 39 GWh/year in Pará, also enough for 2 branches. In Minas Gerais, the state where the bank began investing in solar energy, 39 branches already receive clean energy credits.
With this, the bank will have a total of 5 large solar generation plants and a total annual generation of 32 GWh.
According to José Ricardo Forni, director of Supplies, Infrastructure and Assets at Banco do Brasil, the bank's move is for two main reasons: alignment with the institution's sustainability and cost reduction. Electricity is one of the bank's biggest operating costs, ranking seventh. In absolute values, electricity bill expenses in 2018 totaled R$460 million.
