Brazil joins the group of 20 leading countries in solar energy

Brazil rose five positions in the ranking after adding 2.120 MW in new solar generation systems

Brazil took 16th place in the world ranking of photovoltaic solar sources in 2019, joining the list of the 20 countries with the most installed capacity of the source in operation – including centralized and distributed generation.

According to ABSOLAR (Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy), Brazil rose five positions in the ranking after adding 2.120 MW in new solar generation systems put into operation last year.

Distributed generation was the main driver of this growth, with the installation of 1.470 MW. Centralized generation was responsible for the installation of 650 MW. During the period, more than R$10,7 billion were invested.

In 2019, the country had an accumulated total of 4.533 MW of installed solar photovoltaic energy, attracting, since 2012, approximately R$24 billion in investments and generating more than 134 thousand jobs.

The world ranking is led by China, followed by Japan, the United States and Germany. Brazil is the only country in Latin America on the world list of largest solar energy generators.

GD boosting the photovoltaic market in Brazil

According to a survey carried out by Canal Solar, based on data from ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency), the GD in Brazil increased by 77,83% in the first half of 2020 compared to the same period last year.

Still according to the balance, from January to June 2019, 544.193 kW of installed power was recorded in the country. In the first half of this year, this number was 956.807 kW, an increase of 412.614 kW.

The survey also showed that the region with the highest installed power in the first half of this year in the country was the Southeast, with 428.840 kW. In second place was the South region, with 200.105 kW, and in third place was the Northeast, with 161.746 kW.
