O Brazil and IEA (International Energy Agency) signed a cooperation agreement, this Wednesday (31), to accelerate the energy transition in the world.
The document was signed by Alexandre Silveira, minister of the MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy), and the agency's executive director, Fatih Birol.
The plan aims to develop studies, production of public policies e data exchange protocols for promotion of renewable energies, such as solar and wind.
The agreement also provides mechanisms to finance sources like green hydrogen and biofuels, as well as aid from richer countries.
For the executive director of the IEA, Fatih Birol, the The next two years will be very important for Brazil. “The country has to lead emerging countries on the issue of renewable energy,” he said.
According to him, the promotion of clean energy has not been growing as it should across the world, but some countries – such as Brazil – have “muscle and leadership to drive fair and inclusive development”, he highlighted.
The executive also said that he hopes that Brazil will create, in the coming years, more and more partnerships and markets for a more accelerated growth of renewables across the planet, especially with countries that also encompass the G-20.

“If we look at global GDP, Brazil represents 2%, but in relation to biofuels it represents almost 10% of production. It is a superpower in this sector and can have a very important influence on these new fuels”, he said.
