Brazil may have a program that encourages solar generation in rail vehicles

One of the objectives of the bill is to diversify the sector's energy matrix

The bill that creates the National Policy to Incentivize the Generation of Photovoltaic Solar Energy Connected to Electromobility Systems is currently being processed in the Chamber of Deputies. The proposal, authored by Congressman Rodrigo Agostinho (PSB-SP), establishes a program to encourage the generation of solar energy connected to subway lines, trains and light rail vehicles, among other rail transportation systems.

One of the objectives of the bill is to diversify the sector's energy matrix. “The proposal establishes economic instruments such as tax incentives for the manufacture of rails and rolling stock and also for infrastructure works and the operation of rail transport”, says deputy Rodrigo Agostinho.

The proposal also deals with the exemption from PIS and Cofins taxes on electrical energy consumed by urban and metropolitan public passenger transport and the inclusion of this segment in the Tax Regime to Incentive the Modernization and Expansion of the Port Structure (Report).

Deputy Agostinho also suggests a greater incidence of the Intervention Contribution on the Economic Domain (Cide-fuels) on diesel oil and gasoline. “The measure will help to make the provision of public passenger transport services cheaper”, believes Rodrigo Agostinho.

The project is conclusive and will be analyzed by the Road and Transport committees; of Mines and Energy; Finance and Taxation; and Constitution and Justice and Citizenship.
