CPFL Energia and TIM announced a partnership to expand the digitalization of the distribution network operated by the company in the states of São Paulo and Rio Grande do Sul. With an investment of R$ 60 million, the initiative will cover 65 substations and 2,5 smart devices, benefiting approximately 980 customers.

TIM will be responsible for the deployment and integration of a private telecommunications infrastructure for CPFL. The solution will use the 450 MHz radio frequency band to ensure connectivity for critical operations. The project is scheduled for completion in 2029 and may be expanded to connect up to 50 devices.

With the new infrastructure, CPFL expects to identify incidents in real time and perform safety maneuvers remotely, including in critical situations. The goal is to reduce the time it takes to restore power supply after outages caused by storms or accidents.

The infrastructure will also allow for the expanded use of smart equipment, such as automatic reclosers and voltage regulators, as well as preparing the grid for the future large-scale adoption of smart meters.

In São Paulo, the project will cover the regions of Franca, Miguelópolis, Sorocaba, and Ibiúna. In Rio Grande do Sul, the regions of Uruguaiana, Alegrete, Itaqui, São Borja, and Santa Maria will be included.

According to CPFL, the selection of these locations prioritized areas that require more robust field communication. The expectation is to accelerate service, improve service continuity indicators, and raise the quality perceived by consumers.
