Eletrobras announced the development of a data center in Campinas, in the interior of São Paulo. This will be the company's first project in the digital infrastructure sector, a growing area in Brazil and worldwide.

The initiative is still in the initial documentation phase with the MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy), but it already signals Eletrobras' intention to position itself as an energy supplier for the growing technology and data market.

Today, Eletrobras is responsible for 21% of the country's electricity generation, operating 82 plants with an installed capacity of 44,4 GW. In addition to the company, others such as Ascenty, Microsoft, and Odata are also investing in new data centers in the city and neighboring municipalities.

Ascenty, for example, plans to expand its operations in the city, which already hosted the inauguration of its first unit in 2012. Aurea Finvest is in negotiations to acquire land in the region with a capacity of more than 350 MW, and the holding company Chateau Chambord Empreendimentos e Participações is also developing a data center in Campinas.

Deepen your knowledge:

Eletrobras sells thermoelectric plant and now has only clean generation plants
