Cemig (Companhia Energética de Minas Gerais) won bids promoted by the Brazilian Army to supply renewable electricity to 160 consumer units distributed across ten states.

The contract will be awarded in the Free Energy Market and includes contract management and monitoring services.

The facilities included in the project are located in Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, Mato Grosso do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul, Pará, Pernambuco, Rondônia, Goiás, Amazonas, and the Federal District.

In addition to supplying energy, the company will be responsible for supporting the migration of units to the free contracting environment, carrying out necessary technical adjustments, and representing consumers at the CCEE (Chamber of Electric Energy Commercialization).

According to Cemig, the contracts also include monitoring of energy management, with the aim of facilitating compliance with obligations related to the sale of electricity.

Operating in the Free Energy Market

The contract expands Cemig's portfolio of public clients, which already supplies energy to institutions linked to defense, sanitation, education, and public administration in different regions of the country.

Currently, Cemig holds approximately 14% of the Brazilian Free Energy Market and is the national leader in retail sales.

In this environment, eligible consumers can negotiate terms such as prices, deadlines, and contract volumes directly with suppliers, instead of purchasing energy exclusively on the regulated market.

According to the company's Vice President of Marketing, Sérgio Lopes, contractual security and the financial capacity of suppliers are among the factors considered by consumers when choosing a marketing company.

"The Free Energy Market is going through a phase of maturation, and consumers are increasingly attentive to the security of contracts and the delivery capacity of suppliers," he stated.
