A China installed in the village of Chaideng, in the city of Ordos, a sea of bifacial photovoltaic panels. In total, there are 3,46 million photovoltaic modules, which extend for 30 million square meters along the Chinese Kibuqi Desert.

"This great project, although not able to rival the real Great Wall in length, is planned to extend for about 400 kilometers with an average width of five kilometers,” revealed Liu Tianyun, deputy director of the Ordos Forestry and Grassland Department.

According to Liu, the project will set a new record in terms of the area for photovoltaic farms in China and will have 100 GW of capacity installed after its completion.

A the city currently has 5,42 GW of solar energy in more than 13 thousand hectares of sandy land. The solar incidence in the region is approximately 3,1 thousand hours of sunlight per year.

The distance between the ground and the photovoltaic panels was adjusted to approximately 2,5 meters, Thus, the large space allows people and machines to move easily, providing agricultural work.

The Kubuqi Desert has several coal mines, the treated drainage water of the mines is channeled to the solar power base and is used to clean the solar panels and water plants.

According to Xinhua News Agency, the Solar panels can reduce groundwater evaporation by 20% to 30% and in the meantime, they provide shade and reduce wind speed, allowing plants to grow and animals to utilize the space.
