The company Sertão Brasil Energia Solar has abandoned plans to implement the Sertão Solar Barreiras photovoltaic complex, which was to be built in the interior of the state of Bahia.
This Friday (26), the ANEEL The Brazilian National Electric Energy Agency (Agência Nacional de Energia Elétrica) published a decision in the Official Gazette of the Union (DOU) revoking the licenses for the Sertão Solar Barreiras VII to XXX power plants.
Together, the projects represent 650 MW of installed capacity and have no contracts in either the regulated or free energy market. Although commercial operation was scheduled for September 2027, construction of the complex has not even begun.
According to the company's partner, Renato Figueroa Garcia, when the permits were granted, there was an expectation of connection to the Basic Network through the Barreiras II Substation, using the infrastructure planned to serve other power plants in the same complex in a shared manner.
However, this alternative did not materialize. "Today, the connection is no longer considered viable until at least 2031. This situation, beyond the market issue, makes the implementation of the generating plants technically unfeasible," the executive stated in a letter sent to Aneel.
The lack of an alternative connection to the transmission system was the main factor that led the company to request the revocation of the permits for the projects in Bahia.
