The mayor of Cuiabá (MT), Abilio Brunini (PL), stated this Wednesday (29) that the fire that hit a solar power plant belonging to the City Hall, installed in a vegetation area behind a municipal polyclinic, was caused in a criminal manner.
According to him, a preliminary investigation indicates that someone broke into the property and set fire to the site. Besides the photovoltaic structure, the fire also put the public health unit at risk. "It was someone who went there to access the solar panels and intentionally set them on fire. Then they spread the fire inside the building with the clear intention of burning the solar panels," said Brunini.
The fire occurred on the night of last Tuesday (21), in an area of approximately 20.000 m² next to the health unit. The flames were controlled by the Fire Department, with no victims reported. According to the City Hall, preventive cleaning carried out weeks before contributed to preventing the fire from spreading.
Brunini stated that the fire could have caused even greater damage if the flames had reached the health unit, putting patients and staff at risk. The mayor also informed that the Civil Police were called in to investigate the case and identify the person responsible for the fire, in addition to requesting the public's cooperation.
“We have already forwarded the identification of this person to the police. If anyone recognizes who committed this criminal act, we ask that you help us so that we can hold those responsible for causing this damage to the municipality accountable,” he said.
The mayor also requested that a city councilor who was among the first to arrive at the scene and recorded images of the incident come to the police station to provide clarification as a witness, should he have identified the suspect. According to him, the images have already been collected and will be used in the investigation.
