German startup develops world's first ocean hybrid platform

Floating platform could provide cost-effective, renewable energy to islands around the world

German startup Sinn Power has combined solar wind power to create the world's first floating ocean hybrid platform. According to the company, the goal is to provide people living near the coast with all access to clean electricity.

“The floating platform can provide renewable and cost-effective energy to islands around the world and contribute to the worldwide deployment of offshore wind farms,” said Sinn Power CEO Philipp Sinn.

Sinn claims to operate fully functional prototypes at its research site in Heraklion, Greece, as part of an off-grid energy platform. According to him, the modular unit can be equipped with a 20 kW solar panel and up to four small 6 kWp wind turbines.
