The community of Barra de São Miguel, in Guarulhos (SP), has received a new type of public lighting that is more efficient, sustainable and accessible. The initiative is part of an EDP project, which is installing 30 solar energy poles in the region.

In total, nine are already in operation and the rest should be installed by October. The action, carried out in partnership with the organization Litro de Luz, proposes a social transformation by directly involving residents in the construction of a safer space.

The posts are built with simple, reusable materials – such as PET bottles and PVC pipes – combined with clean technologies such as solar panels, batteries and LED lamps.

The proposal is to illuminate previously dark and vulnerable areas, promoting safety, encouraging nighttime activities and fostering local commerce. The project aims to stimulate community protagonism.

It hosts the “Playing with Kites” project, developed in partnership with Evoluir, which alerts students about the risks of flying kites near the school. electrical network through educational and recreational activities

According to Dominic Schmal, EDP’s ESG director in South America, the program aims to leave a lasting legacy in the communities. “By engaging residents in the actions, we are including the communities in a real process of transformation. It is a concrete way to drive sustainable development and promote changes that last,” he concluded.
