Ghosts, pumpkins and colorful lights. The arrival of Halloween, celebrated this Saturday (31), is already starting to inspire the decoration of many houses, condominiums and streets in different Brazilian cities.
But before putting up the decorations, attention must be paid to the safety of electrical installations, especially in outdoor areas, where exposure to rain and wind can increase the risk of accidents.
To avoid electric shocks, short circuits, and other problems, certain precautions should be taken when choosing equipment and setting up the decorations.
According to CPFL Paulista, the first step is to check if the lights and other equipment are suitable for outdoor use. It is also important to check if the wires are in good condition, without cracks, damage or exposed parts.
"Installate with the power off and only in a dry location. If you need to use extension cords, choose models designed for outdoor use and keep the connections away from the ground, puddles, and rain," advises the distributor.
The company also recommends avoiding wire splices, overloading outlets, and makeshift connections. “If the decoration requires new power points or electrical installation, seek a qualified electrician. It is also important to securely fasten decorations and structures so that the wind does not knock them down or carry them towards the wiring.”
Pay attention to the electrical grid.
CPFL warns that decorations, lights, and structures should be kept away from power lines. The distributor emphasizes that objects should never be hung on poles or cables, nor should connections be made directly to the public grid.
In condominiums, the installation of decorations in common areas should be coordinated with the administration and carried out by a qualified professional. For decorating sidewalks and other public spaces, it is recommended to consult the city hall before setting up any structures.
What to do in case of rain or strong winds?
In case of rain or strong winds, CPFL recommends turning off the decorations before handling the ornaments, provided this can be done in a dry and safe place.
If outlets, wires, or equipment are wet, do not approach them or attempt to remove them. If you find a fallen cable, keep your distance and contact the service provider.
In emergency situations, the recommendation is to contact the Fire Department by calling 193. Other safety recommendations can be found on the Guardian of Life website.
