A City Council of Serra – the most populous municipality in Espírito Santo, with more than 536 thousand inhabitants – approved this Tuesday (05) a bill which offers 20% discount on IPTU (Urban Property and Territorial Tax) for residents who have solar energy systems installed in their homes.

Authored by councilor Artur Costa (Solidarity), the text aims to benefit individuals, individual microentrepreneurs (MEI) e small business owners who have properties registered with their CNPJ (National Register of Legal Entities).

To be entitled to exemption, the owner must have a property registered in their name, with IPTU payment on time and that solar energy generation must be approved by EDP.

The bill goes to mayor Sérgio Vidigal (PDT) for approval, You have up to 30 days to approve the document. Currently, other cities in the state, such as Vitória, Vila Velha and Colatina, already guarantee discounts on IPTU for residents with photovoltaic systems.

Espírito Santo

As it is the most populous city in the state, it is no surprise that Serra is now also the municipality in Espírito Santo with the highest volume of systems and installed power in the solar DG (distributed generation) segment.

According to data from ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency), the location has almost 2,6 thousand photovoltaic systems connected to the distribution network and just over 24 MW of installed power.

The municipality closest to Serra is Colatina, with around a thousand fewer systems (1,48 thousand) and an installed power of 12,7 MW.  At the moment, the capital Vitória is only the fifth city with the highest number of systems (980), but, at least, it is the second when it comes to installed power in solar DG (14,9 MW).

Currently, the state of Espírito Santo has just over 19 photovoltaic systems installed in residential, commercial, industrial, rural and government-related properties. The installed capacity in solar DG is 224,5 MW, according to the ANEEL.
