President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) officially appointed Gustavo Cerqueira Ataíde to the position of executive secretary of the MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy). The appointment was published in the DOU (Official Gazette of the Union) this Thursday (5).

A career federal civil servant, Ataíde has experience in various areas of public administration, working in agencies such as the Civil House, the Ministry of Economy, and the Ministry of Mines and Energy itself. He is a civil engineer, graduated from UnB (University of Brasília), and holds a specialization in public policy and government management in the energy and mineral sectors from PUC-Rio.

In October 2023, Ataíde assumed the role of chief of staff to the president of EPE (Energy Research Company). Subsequently, in June 2025, he was appointed National Secretary for Energy Transition and Planning at the Ministry of Mines and Energy., a position he took over from Thiago Barral. Now, with the new appointment, he assumes the executive secretary role within the Ministry.

Exoneration

In the same edition of the Official GazetteThe Federal Government confirmed the dismissal of Arthur Valério, who had held the position of executive secretary since January 2024. His departure had already been hinted at behind the scenes.

According to the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME), Valério informed Minister Alexandre Silveira, back in May 2025, of his intention to leave the position. However, he chose to remain until the beginning of this year to ensure administrative continuity and the completion of agendas considered strategic by the ministry.

The executive secretary of the Ministry of Mines and Energy resigns and leaves his post.
