MME will install 62 photovoltaic systems with batteries in Yanomami Land

Service to the population will be guaranteed with the use of solar sources and energy storage

Another sixty-two photovoltaic systems with batteries will be installed in health centers in the Yanomami land in the states of Amazonas and Roraima, according to the MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy).

The two letters, which authorized the inclusion of these units in the More Light for the Amazon Program, were sent to the board of distribution companies in both states, on Friday (24).

According to the Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, the measure responds to a request from SESAI (Indigenous Health Secretariat) of the Ministry of Health and follows the president's directive to assist the Yanomami population.

“We need to reinforce the energy supply in health centers in the Yanomami territory, so that the professionals who work in this community have better conditions to serve them, offering more health, dignity, and more chances of life to this population,” declared the minister.

Also according to the MME, the measure is part of the actions to combat ESPIN (Public Health Emergency of National Importance), due to the lack of assistance to the Yanomami people. The signs are expected to be installed as soon as possible.

At the end of January, other equipment of this type was installed at the request of the MME, on an emergency basis, in the communities of Surucucu, Auaris, Palimiu, Serra da Estrutura, Walo Pali and Xexena, all focused on priority feeding of health units to serve indigenous people.
