Michelin inaugurates solar power plant in Bahia and expands its use of renewable energy.

The system will supply research centers and visitor areas, with an average annual generation of 102 kWh.

A multinacional francesa Michelin, uma das maiores fabricantes de pneus do mundo, inaugurou uma usina solar na Bahia. Segundo a companhia, o sistema deverá gerar, em média, 102 mil kWh por ano e será usado para abastecer estruturas ligadas à pesquisa, à biodiversidade e à visitação na região.

Com 620 metros quadrados, a usina atenderá o Centro de Estudo da Biodiversidade, o Centro de Pesquisa em Heveicultura e o Espaço Ouro Verde, área voltada à recepção de visitantes externos.

Na avaliação de Glauce Ferman, diretora de Comunicação & Marcas, Sustentabilidade e Relações Públicas da Michelin América do Sul, essa iniciativa vai muito além da redução de custos com energia.

“O projeto materializa o compromisso da Michelin com a sustentabilidade, reforçando a integração entre desenvolvimento econômico, responsabilidade ambiental e impacto positivo”, destacou Glauce.

“Ao utilizar uma fonte de energia limpa e renovável, o Espaço Ouro Verde reduz sua pegada de carbono e contribui diretamente para a preservação da Mata Atlântica e para os objetivos globais de transição energética”, acrescentou.

Já  Saulo Cardoso, coordenador de Segurança, Saúde e Meio Ambiente da Michelin da Usina Borracha Natural ressaltou que a iniciativa reforça a estratégia sustentável da companhia, amplia o uso de energia renovável e contribui para a redução das emissões de CO2 na operação.

“Com a usina de energia na Bahia, a Michelin reforça que sua agenda sustentável está baseada em ações concretas, com foco simultâneo em descarbonização, eficiência operacional e geração de valor de longo prazo”, comentou.

Estratégia sustentável da companhia

A multinacional informou que a Reserva Ecológica Michelin já dispõe de outras soluções baseadas em energia renovável. Entre elas está o fornecimento para a chamada Casa do Pacangê, estrutura de apoio a biólogos e pesquisadores, atendida por um sistema fotovoltaico autônomo com armazenamento em baterias e operação desconectada da rede pública.

Na área industrial, onde está instalada a unidade de beneficiamento de borracha natural, a Michelin mantém o suprimento de eletricidade proveniente de fonte 100% renovável, com certificação i-REC.

De acordo com a empresa, desde 2021 todos os seus sites industriais operam com energia elétrica verde, em linha com a política de redução de emissões e eficiência operacional adotada globalmente.

A companhia tem como meta alcançar a neutralidade de carbono até 2050 e reduzir suas emissões em 50% até 2030, considerando toda a cadeia de valor.
