The MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy) began public consultation to hold an energy auction for the capital of Roraima, Boa Vista. The capital and neighboring cities are served by an isolated electrical system, not connected to the SIN (National Interconnected System).
Currently the only federation unit not connected to the SIN, Roraima depends on electricity exported by Venezuela. With the political instability of the neighboring country, the state's electricity supply is constantly threatened, which causes concern for the Brazilian federal government.
The MME initiative is part of broader planning, the objective of which is to provide electricity supply to several locations in the northern region of the country.
With this public consultation announced this month for the state of Roraima, the government intends to establish public-private partnerships with a term of 15 years for generation projects with renewable and conventional sources to come into operation within two years.
