The Buritirama–Barra II Transmission Line project has obtained the Installation License issued by INEMA (Institute of Environment and Water Resources), authorizing the start of construction on a project considered strategic for the flow of renewable energy in the Northeast.
The licensed section connects the Buritirama and Barra II substations, spanning 96,5 kilometers at a voltage of 500 kV, crossing the municipalities of Barra, Buritirama, and Mansidão, in the state of Bahia.
The line is part of the Serra Dourada Project, corresponding to Lot 1 of Transmission Auction No. 01/2023. ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency), acquired by ISA Energia Brasil. The RAP (Annual Permitted Revenue) of the project is R$ 322 million in the 2025/2026 cycle.
With an estimated investment of R$ 3,2 billion, the project will be important for transporting renewable energy production from western Bahia and northern Minas Gerais, especially from wind and solar power plants expanding in these regions.
The complete scope of the Serra Dourada project includes the installation of five 500 kV overhead transmission lines, totaling 1.097 kilometers in length, connecting western Bahia to northern Minas Gerais and crossing 23 municipalities – 20 in Bahia and three in Minas Gerais.
The project also includes the construction of three new substations (Campo Formoso II, Barra II and Correntina), which should relieve the load on the existing grid and increase the reliability of the SIN (National Interconnected System), strengthening the exchange of energy between the Northeast and Southeast regions.
According to Ayron Urrego, Executive Director of Projects at ISA Energia Brasil, obtaining the license represents a significant milestone for the execution of the project.
“This stretch is strategic for expanding the region's electricity transmission capacity and ensuring the efficient flow of renewable energy. We are moving forward with the project prioritizing safety, sustainability, and generating value for local communities and for Brazil,” he stated.
