As high temperatures registered in November boosted the use of fans and air conditioning devices all over the country and increased consumption Brazilian of electrical energy by 11,4% compared to the same month last year.
According to data from Fortnightly InfoMercado Newsletter, CCEE (Electricity Trading Chamber), were 72.261 average MW registered in the period. In 2023, no other month of the year will consume so much electricity.

O increase was more significant in the regulated market, in which homes and small businesses contract electricity directly from distributors. The segment presented growth of 15,2% in the annual comparison.
Industry and large companies that are in the free market showed an increase of 5,2%, influenced both by the heat and by the good performance of sectors such as services and commerce.
Electricity consumption by branch of economic activity
The biggest increases in November, compared to the same period in 2022, were observed by CCEE in the services (16,2%) and commerce (14,1%) sectors.
“These are sectors that, in addition to the impact of temperature, with the need for more intense use of refrigeration equipment in shopping malls, hotels and supermarkets, also used more energy to guarantee stock for the end of year festivities. Only the chemical industry and vehicle manufacturing had a lower burden, challenged by the international market”, highlights the CCEE.

Power generation
Hydroelectric plants had one of the best performances of the year, delivering more than 51.000 average MW to the SIN (National Interconnected System), an increase of 2,6% in the annual comparison.
Wind and solar also broke generation records for the year, producing, together, more than 14.500 average MW, complementing the country's energy supply.
Heat wave increases interest in financing solar panels by 20%
Wind power plants were responsible for the production of 11.372 average MW in 2023, an increase of 35,8% compared to the 8.374 average MW in the same period of the previous year.
Solar energy production, in turn, registered an expansion of almost 90% when comparing the two periods: 1.656 average MW in 2022 against 3.134 average MW in 2023.
Thermal plants increased their share by 23,5%, driven by the greater representation of biomass plants, which use sugar cane as their main raw material.
