In an unprecedented cooperative initiative in the electricity sector, the ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) and the distributors Neoenergia Brasília, Neoenergia Elektro, Equatorial Alagoas, Equatorial Pará and CEEE Grupo Equatorial launched, this week, the educational pilot project “Conscious Energy”.
The announcement was made at headquarters. ANEELin Brasília (DF). The initiative is part of the distributors' Energy Efficiency Program (PEE) and foresees an investment of R$ 6,1 million over 24 months to serve up to 25 public elementary schools.
The project is expected to benefit approximately 30 students from the 4th to the 7th grade, as well as teachers, school administrators, families, and local communities. The proposal seeks to develop and validate a pedagogical methodology that places energy efficiency at the center of the learning process.
The goal is to encourage sustainable practices, raise environmental awareness, and train students as agents of change in their communities. The initiative aligns with the BNCC (National Common Curriculum Base), the PISA benchmarks – the OECD's (Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development) educational assessment – and the PEE guidelines of [the relevant institution/organization]. ANEEL.
Based on the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) approach and Project-Based Learning, the program will address topics such as energy efficiency, climate change, recycling and the circular economy.
Participating public schools may also receive improvements to their facilities to increase energy efficiency, according to technical and economic feasibility criteria outlined in the regulations. ANEEL.
The technical execution will be carried out in partnership with Tríade Educacional, responsible for the pedagogical design, teacher training, monitoring and impact assessment, and Centro Brasil no Clima, which will implement the methodology of the Climate Rights Charters, strengthening the debate on climate change and the engagement of communities.
“We believe that education is one of the most powerful tools to promote social transformation and accelerate the building of a sustainable future,” says Solange Ribeiro, vice president of Neoenergia.
At the end of the pilot project, the expectation is to generate indicators and evidence that contribute to the expansion of the methodology in other territories, consolidating the public school as a local reference in the rational use of energy, sustainability, and social mobilization.
For the general director of ANEELAccording to Sandoval Feitosa, the initiative marks a "historic moment around a transformative agenda," assuring that all "schools in the project will be schools of excellence, environments of creativity and investigation," he emphasized.
