An electrical engineer was arrested this Wednesday (12), in São Paulo (SP), suspected of scamming clients who contracted solar energy systems in Piauí.

According to G1 Piauí, based on information from the state's Civil Police, the suspect signed contracts for the installation of photovoltaic systems, received payments, but part of the services were allegedly not performed.

The suspect was identified as Heitor Santana. He resided in the city of São Paulo, where he was pursuing a doctorate in the Department of Electrical Engineering at USP (University of São Paulo).

More than 30 incidents are under investigation.

The allegations against the engineer involve clients who claim to have made payments for the installation of photovoltaic systems but did not receive the services as contracted.

According to Adalberto Paulo, delegate of the 2nd Sectional Police Station of Teresina, more than 30 police reports and nine police investigations related to the engineer are recorded in the police systems.

Among the victims is a resident of Teresina who claims to have hired the service in December 2025, after receiving recommendations from other people.

In a statement to G1, she said that she contacted the engineer on December 1st. The following day, the professional allegedly went to her residence to negotiate the installation of 12 photovoltaic modules.

The system was contracted for R$ 10, paid by card, and was supposed to be installed in approximately 15 days. According to the client, however, the service was not performed.

After the deadline passed, she claims to have received different justifications for the delay. Subsequently, the engineer allegedly stopped responding to attempts to contact him.

According to information published by the press in Piauí, other contracts attributed to the suspect involved amounts ranging from approximately R$ 6 to R$ 200.

Police investigate movement of R$ 2 million in one month.

Another point being investigated is the financial activity attributed to the engineer. According to the Civil Police, he allegedly moved approximately R$ 2 million in just one month.

Before his arrest, the suspect gave a statement to the police via video call, since he resided in São Paulo while the cases were being investigated in Piauí.

The investigation is also looking into information that the engineer allegedly presented himself to some victims as a professor at UESPI (State University of Piauí). This information is contained in reports filed by clients, according to local media.

Every day, a dishonest crook finds a fool who wants to take advantage, and a deal always falls through. Where have you ever seen someone paying 10k for a photovoltaic system with 12 panels? Open your eyes!
