The Porto Alegre City Hall saved R$ 18,5 million between January and November 2025 after reviewing its electricity supply contracts, according to the Municipal Finance Department.
The result was driven primarily by the migration of consumer units to the Free Energy Market, which generated average reductions of around 25% in electricity costs.
At the Porto Alegre Emergency Hospital, for example, the monthly bill dropped from R$ 250 to approximately R$ 200. Similar savings were recorded at the Serraria Wastewater Treatment Plant, where the bill went from R$ 450 to R$ 340.
According to electrical engineer and project coordinator Luís Eduardo Lemes, the municipality is also making progress in implementing photovoltaic solar power generation in buildings served by... low tensionin addition to adopting other energy efficiency measures in public buildings.
