The Minister of Mines and Energy, Alexandre Silveira, was summoned by the Mines and Energy Committee of the Chamber of Deputies to provide clarifications on the Federal Government's proposal to bring forward the start of operations of thermoelectric plants contracted in the 2026 LRCAP (Capacity Reserve Auction).
The committee had invited the minister to discuss the topic last Wednesday (27). As Silveira did not attend the meeting, the deputies approved his formal summons, at the request of deputy Evair Vieira de Melo (Republicanos-ES).
In addition to the proposal related to thermal power plants, the minister will also have to answer questions about other matters related to the Ministry's activities. The hearing is scheduled for next Tuesday (2), at 10 am.
Since the LRCAP auction in March 2026, the Ministry of Mines and Energy (MME) has been advocating for the possibility of bringing forward the commissioning of thermal power plants contracted in the auction. The justification is to strengthen the security of the national electricity system and reduce the risk of power shortages in the coming years.
However, the proposal has generated questions from parliamentarians and sector agents regarding possible impacts on energy tariffs, sector charges, criteria for selecting projects, and the legal security of contracts signed in the bidding process.
"The anticipation of contracts signed in regulated auctions can produce significant impacts on energy tariffs, sector charges, and legal certainty," stated Vieira de Melo, justifying the summoning of Silveira.
