O Canal Solar He was in Ilhabela (SP), one of the main tourist destinations in the interior of São Paulo, to closely observe how solar energy systems with batteries have transformed the daily lives of residents in the region, especially in places with a history of recurring power outages.

The report shows two real-life cases where the combination of photovoltaic generation and battery storage has brought greater energy security and independence from the electrical grid. In one of the projects, the system was designed to fully meet the energy demand of a residence with high energy consumption.

“We created a customized project for the client, and today the system serves the entire house. He has very heavy equipment, which is powered by the solar system and batteries. Today, the client no longer needs energy from the grid,” said Ovidio Collesi, partner and commercial director of EngPower.

The property owner, Sergio Machado, has worked in the financial market for over 40 years and depends on a continuous power supply for a number of computers. He cannot be without power for even a second, otherwise the losses are enormous.

The professional points out that, after the installation, the main benefit was not the savings on the electricity bill, but the reliability.  “People only think of solar energy as something that will lower their electricity bill, and my concern, even though my bill was high, was minimal. I needed service availability. And suddenly, you realize that you can combine the two things (with the hybrid system),” he stated.

After the first visit, the Canal Solar He drove through the city, heading towards a residential complex where a couple was experiencing frequent power outages. Before the installation of the hybrid system, residents would go days without electricity.

“Every rain, and it didn’t even have to be heavy, would knock out the power in the house, and we would be without electricity for a long time,” reported Luciene Valentim, the homeowner. With the new solution installed, the situation has changed. “Today, the power still goes out in the condominium, and my house is the only one that stays lit,” she emphasized.

Integrator's perspective

According to Ovidio Collesi, the growth of this type of solution is directly dependent on the technical training of professionals in the sector. He was a student and part of the first class of... storage course do Canal Solar.

"Consumers still don't know that it's possible to have energy (without depending on the grid). They think the only alternative is a generator. Now, they are starting to understand that they can have a low-noise, low-maintenance system with a long lifespan," he stated.

Collesi also points out that the demand for this type of solution has grown rapidly and that integrators who don't update will be missing out on great opportunities. In the last three months alone, he says he has completed five installations in Ilhabela (SP), and has another five or six projects in the pipeline.

Could you publish prices for these batteries? It would be very helpful for consumers to have an idea of the costs.

If the federal and state governments didn't impose taxes, it would be a solution for all Brazilians…

Congratulations on the article! It's very important to publicize this new and more profitable way of generating and storing energy.
I'll keep learning here and hoping that a client like that will show up around here, lol.

Could you tell me why the panels were installed facing south? Or did they later install more panels that aren't shown in the article?

Hello, I don't know if this is for me, but here goes: energy backup is quite important to me. I'm building a house and my project already includes 24 bifacial 705w modules and a hybrid 12kDye, 8 48v 100ah batteries. I'm not afraid of a blackout. If you can, do the same. The cost is high, but the convenience is great. Thanks: Ednaldo
