Residential solar power reaches 23 GW in Brazil, exceeding the total capacity of the United Kingdom.

The European country has between 20 and 22 GW of total solar capacity, while Brazil surpasses that volume only in the residential sector.

The main segment of distributed generation, residential solar energy has already surpassed 23 GW of installed capacity in Brazil, with almost 3,3 million photovoltaic systems in operation, according to updated data from [source missing]. ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) this Monday (30).

This volume alone already reaches levels comparable to — and in many cases, exceeding — the total installed solar capacity in several European countries, such as the United Kingdom, whose accumulated power ranges from 20 to 22 GW, considering all types of solar generation.

In Europe, few countries, such as Germany, Spain, and Italy, for example, have a total solar capacity exceeding 23 GW. In Brazil, considering all segments of solar energy (which include distributed generation and large-scale plants), the installed capacity already surpasses 67 GW.

Solar is already on its way to becoming number 1 in the Brazilian electricity matrix, says Sauaia

In the residential distributed generation segment, the 23 GW are mainly concentrated in three modalities: installations at the consumer's own unit, totaling 17,5 GW; remote self-consumption, with 5,2 GW; and shared generation, which accounts for 189 MW of installed capacity.

Among the states, São Paulo leads the residential solar energy market, with a capacity exceeding 3,5 GW and more than 564 installed systems. Following are Rio Grande do Sul (1,9 GW and 304 installations) and Minas Gerais (1,86 GW and 311 systems).

Currently, the Brazilian market for distributed solar generation is approaching 46 GW of installed capacity, with more than 4,1 million photovoltaic systems serving over 7,3 million consumers, including residences, businesses, industries, rural properties, and public sector entities.
