A SolarEdge, a manufacturer of photovoltaic inverters and developer of Smart Energy technologies, announced the opening of a new high-power lithium-ion battery cell factory in South Korea.

Together with the Kokam Limited Company, a supplier of lithium-ion batteries and integrated energy storage solutions, SolarEdge's aim is to expand the supply of energy storage solutions and equipment. energy storage in the global market, including in Brazil.

The factory, called Sella 2, is located in the city of Eun Seong, in Chungbuk, and will have a production capacity of 2 GW. With the initial proposal to offer high-standard storage solutions for residential customers, the unit must also serve the global industrial sector.

Additionally, the project will provide SolarEdge with the infrastructure needed to develop new battery cell chemistries and technologies, as it will have its own supply of lithium-ion batteries.

According to Zvi Lando, CEO of SolarEdge, the opening of Sella 2 is of great importance, considering that it will serve the main businesses in the solar sector, in addition to expanding the supply chain.

“We are committed to growing our business in the energy storage market, based on an investment schedule that guarantees, at the same time, excellent service to our customers in the markets we operate and the even more robust expansion of our portfolio of storage products”, comments the businessman.

Among the solutions for the global industrial sector are mobile and modular batteries for stationary energy storage. Mass production is scheduled for the second half of this year, after completion of the certification process by international bodies.
