Spain's Ministry of Ecological Transition announced a new incentive program aimed at the production of equipment and components for renewable sources, strengthening the production chain and fostering the energy transition in the country.
With a budget of €480 million — approximately R$3,08 billion — the initiative seeks to boost the national manufacturing of technologies such as solar panels, batteries, wind turbines and electrolyzers.
The funds will be divided into two blocks: one for projects with a budget between €1 million and €30 million, and another for large-scale initiatives, with a budget equal to or greater than €30 million.
Financial support may cover up to 15% of the project's total costs, with a ceiling of €150 million per project. However, this percentage may vary depending on the region and the size of the beneficiary company:
- Small businesses may receive up to 20% more than the average limit;
- Medium-sized companies, up to an additional 10%.
The program will be managed by IDAE (Institute for Diversification and Energy Economics), an entity affiliated with the Ministry of Ecological Transition. The public consultation period for the proposal remains open until September 8, 2025.
Continuation of the RENOVAL program
This new investment builds on the RENOVAL program, launched earlier this year, which invested €210 million exclusively in the solar energy sector in Spain. In total, seven projects benefited, covering nearly the entire technology value chain—from wafer production to module assembly.
The majority of the funding (nearly €200 million) went to Sunwafe, a Spanish startup that manufactures solar ingots and wafers. The company plans to build a factory with an annual capacity of 20 GW by 2030 in the Asturias region of northern Spain.
