A 58,5 MW floating solar power plant in Thailand, considered the largest installation of its kind in the country, was connected to the grid this month. According to Sungrow, which is responsible for the project, the plant occupies an area of 121 hectares and is located on the surface of a dam in Ubon Ratchathani province.

The company supplied the SG3400HV inverter, which achieves a C5 level of anti-corrosion. According to the manufacturer, with the IP67 protection level combiner box, the solution proves resilient in the harsh conditions of the reservoir. Optimized for large-scale photovoltaic plants, the product has a maximum efficiency of 99%. In addition, it offers low transportation and installation costs due to its standard container design and has integrated zone monitoring for online analysis and troubleshooting.

Furthermore, the company emphasized that it also provided the project's floating platform, which guarantees a minimum negative effect on the lake's flora and fauna.

More projects

Other floating solar PV plants supplied by Sungrow in Thailand include a 12,5 MW plant at the industrial reservoir in Rayong province and four projects totaling 15 MW in Suphanburi province. According to the updated energy development plan (PDP 2018-2037), the country aims to derive 35 percent of its energy from non-fossil sources by 2037.
