Engie Brasil has been expanding the recycling of photovoltaic panels as part of its sustainability strategy.

In 2025, the company recycled more than 132 tons of modules, a result of a partnership with a Brazilian startup specializing in the complete recovery of this equipment.

The process allows for the reuse of high-value-added components, which are transformed into inputs for new panels or directed to other industrial segments.

Since 2022, the company has recycled more than three thousand tons of panels, achieving a 99% reuse rate and preventing disposal in industrial landfills, according to the Sustainability Report recently published by the company.

The initiative seeks to support the expansion of the company's solar capacity, which currently totals approximately 2,6 GW distributed across the Northeast, Southeast, and South regions of the country.

Batteries

In addition to the panels, Engie also adopts specific practices for the treatment of batteries used in its operations. Stationary equipment used in solar trackers and generators undergoes reverse logistics processes at the end of its useful life.

In this model, the batteries are returned to the manufacturers, where they undergo separation and shredding processes, allowing the materials to be reused in the production cycle itself.

In 2025, more than 32 tons of batteries were sent for recycling, ensuring the environmentally sound disposal of this waste.

Notice

As part of its strategy to promote the sector, the company also launched, last year, the first call for proposals focused on recycling and reverse logistics projects, with support from the Recycling Incentive Law (Law No. 14.260/2021).

Among the supported initiatives is the "Encourage Recycling" project, which received an investment of R$ 245 — the first investment of its kind in the country.

The proposal includes conducting courses and producing 2 booklets on the legislation, with the aim of disseminating knowledge and stimulating the development of new projects in the sector.
