TIM announced that it plans to build, by mid-2021, 60 solar, hydro and biogas power plants. Together the plants are expected to generate 38 GWh of power monthly. The initiative is part of the National Distributed Generation Project, created in 2017, with a hydro plant pilot in Minas Gerais.
The objective is to promote sustainability through renewable sources, not only to reduce energy costs at the operator's sites, but, mainly, to meet the growing demand for energy in a clean way.
According to the company, until September of this year, 62% of renewable energy was consumed, exceeding the established target of 60%. The expectation is to reach 78% by the end of 2020 and above 80% in 2021.
By October 2020, 24 plants had been implemented, including photovoltaic, hydro and biogas, responsible for supplying 15 GWh – serving more than 8 thousand UCs (consumer units), such as antennas, telecommunications towers and company-owned stores.
“This year, even with the pandemic, we intend to reach 36 plants, exceeding 78% of consumption with renewable sources by December. In 2021, we want to expand solar plants, and, by 2025, reduce energy costs, using surplus resources to constantly revitalize the network”, said Bruno Gentil, Chief Business Support Officer at TIM.
