With the aim of generating reduction in the cost of electricity in all state public administration buildings, the government of Tocantins launched a bidding notice for contracting PPP (Public-Private Partnership) intended for the implementation, operation and maintenance of photovoltaic plants.

The estimate is of a savings of R$600 million to public coffers during the concession contract that will be in force for 25 years. At the end of this period, the plants will be fully incorporated into the state heritage.

This is first bidding notice launched by the Partnerships and Investments Program, created with the purpose of expanding and strengthening interaction between the State and the private sector in favor of the public interest.

In total, the document offers three lots: one for the SES (State Department of Health), worth approximately R$28,42 million; one for SEDUC (Secretariat of Education), worth R$252,9 million and another for the other bodies, worth R$321,1 million.

With the initiative, the government hopes to reduce carbon emissions into the atmosphere by more than 2 thousand tons per year, the equivalent of carbon dioxide absorbed annually by 130 thousand trees

“With the installation of the plants, we will advance not only in the generation of clean energy but also attract large-scale enterprises to the State”, said Wanderlei Barbosa, governor of Tocantins.

To assist the public authorities in improving the necessary process until it was possible to reach the bidding notice, the Government of Tocantins resorted to the participation of society by providing a public consultation between February 21st and March 22nd, 2022.

On March 16, the State also held a public hearing with the presence of representatives from civil society, the judiciary and the private sector.
