O ONS (National Electrical System Operator) started to join the UN Global Compact (United Nations) in Brazil.
This is one agreement signed during the United Nations Summit, on 2015, which proposed an agenda made up of 17 interconnected objectives, broken down into 169 goals, with focus on overcoming challenges related to aspects environmental and social.
“This membership reinforces ONS’s commitment to advancing its strategy, which is structured around three pillars: more human, greener and more social”, informed the Operator.
Representatives of UN Global Compact in Brazil also met in recent days, during COP 28, with executives from BNDES (National Development Bank) and the Eletrobras for signing of an agreement between the two companies to promote the decarbonization of the Amazon and recovery of Brazilian river basins.

A partnership plans to make investments in: socio-environmental projects; actions to improve the navigability of the Madeira and Tocantins rivers, in addition to work to connect isolated communities.
The agreement focuses on developing partnerships through matchfunding of environmental restoration to leverage resources that will be invested in regional funds.
