Votorantim Cimentos signed a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with Atlas Renewable Energy to supply an average of 100 MW of solar energy to its production units in the South, Southeast and Central-West regions.

The contract will last 15 years and was signed under the self-production model, where all generation will come from Atlas' Luiz Carlos Solar Project, in the municipality of Paracatu (MG).

When it starts operating, the photovoltaic park will have an installed capacity of 787 MWp, of which almost two thirds of this volume (470 MWp) will be allocated to Votorantim.

The agreement is part of Votorantim's investment portfolio and decarbonization plan, which includes renewable energy as one of the company's strategic pillars.

The company's goal is to have 45% of its global energy coming from clean energy sources by 2030. With the new agreement signed, around 75% of the company's consumption of construction materials in Brazil will come from renewable sources.

With the use of clean sources, the company also seeks to reduce its net CO24,8 emissions by 2% compared to the base year of 2018 and 37,7% compared to the 1990s. In the long term, the ambition of the entity is to achieve carbon neutrality in 2050.

Currently, Votorantim is responsible for operating the concession of the 160 MW Pedra do Cavalo hydroelectric plant in Minas Gerais, in addition to having four PCHs (Small Hydroelectric Power Plants) in other locations and participating in the Machadinho hydroelectric plant consortium, in the south of Brazil. Brazil.

In 2022, the company also signed an agreement with Auren to build a wind farm in the Northeast of Brazil, with a capacity of 220 MW, which came into operation in early 2023, adding 55 average MW of renewable energy to its portfolio.

“Our focus is to intensify efficiency and incorporate the use of renewable energy, increasing the volume of self-produced clean energy that we consume and, consequently, our competitiveness, generating benefits for society,” said Álvaro Lorenz, the company’s global sustainability director.
