Behind the refrigerators that ensure that beer arrives cold at tables of bars and restaurants, there is a high electrical energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere.
To combat this problem, the Ambev announced that it has been looking for solutions to help its ecosystem and the environment. One of them is the transformation of traditional refrigerators into more ecological equipment.
A factory opened in February 2022 and, to date, has already renovated more than 23 thousand refrigerators, which represents a reduction of more than 3.752 tons of CO2 emissions by reusing materials.
In this period, more than 46 thousand bars and restaurants were covered, since, in addition to the equipment made available, other machines were offered to these establishments.
This is one of the company's projects aimed at reducing carbon emissions by 25% across the entire chain by 2025 and becoming net zero by 2040.
“We strongly believe in the importance of shared growth and sustainable development to achieve more significant results,” stated Caio Miranda, Sustainability Director at Ambev.
“For this reason, we are constantly looking for solutions that contribute to the advancement of our sustainability agenda and also benefit our ecosystem”, he highlighted.
For the coming years, the company has invested in partnerships with sustainable businesses, such as the startup Lemon Energia, which has been part of the Ambev ecosystem since 2020.
Furthermore, with the 100+Labs Brasil Program (new name of the 100+ Accelerator), of open innovation, the company continues to advance its sustainability goals and encourage entrepreneurs who develop solutions and projects with a positive impact.
Renewable energy and reducing energy bills
Lemon Energia, a startup that connects renewable energy from mini-producers to bars and restaurants, without the need for works or external resources, is helping to reduce establishments' electricity bills, with discounts that can reach 20%, and CO2 emissions, with more than 2,3 tons of CO2 that are not released into the environment.
In 2022, this initiative was expanded globally with ABInbev and Budweiser. The project's ambition for Brazil is for 250 establishments to make the transition by 2025.
Atmos, a startup participating in the fourth edition of the 100+Labs Brasil Program, reached the final of the program with its technology applied to reduce energy waste.
The pilot project sought to improve the automation of cold rooms, refrigerators, freezers and beer coolers by monitoring energy consumption in real time, through a platform developed by the startup.
