A ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) forwarded to the TCU (Federal Court of Auditors) the notice for the next electricity transmission auction, which foresees around R$8 billion in investments.

The event is scheduled to take place in the second half of 2025 and includes the implementation of 1.958 km of transmission lines, in addition to three new substations and the expansion of another six units.

The auction will be divided into six lots, distributed among the states of Bahia, Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Paraná, Rio de Janeiro, Rondônia, Santa Catarina and São Paulo, in addition to the Federal District.

According to ANEEL, the project will expand energy flow capacity, especially in regions that have seen growth in renewable generation, such as solar and wind, and strengthen the reliability of the SIN (National Interconnected System).

Among the highlights of the auction are the construction of lines that will interconnect areas of expansion of renewable generation, especially in the Northeast and Central-West, in addition to important reinforcements in the Southeast and South, regions with high industrial and urban demand.

The notice for the new transmission auction also includes improvements and expansions in substations, considered by the Agency as fundamental to guarantee the balance of the electrical system and help reduce operational risks, such as those associated with recent challenges with curtailment.

Deadlines

The projects have execution deadlines that vary between 36 and 66 months, depending on the lot. The expectation is that, when completed, the projects will provide an estimated savings of R$ 3,2 billion, by reducing operating costs, charges and losses in the electrical system. The auction is still awaiting approval from the TCU for official publication of the notice and confirmation of the date.

Without further ado, these are urgent measures under penalty of having a very serious operational problem due to the lack of capacity of the SIN and not being able to drain the energy originating from the inversion of flow, which is a precious energy to meet the increase in demand and consumption in times of low availability of hydraulic sources.
