Scheduled for December of this year, the next Auction for Supply to Isolated Systems brings significant news to reduce carbon emissions in the Amazon region.

This week, the Public Consultation No. 167/2024 to discuss with society the guidelines for this contest, whose contribution deadline is June 21st.

Among the guidelines, the MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy) requires that the solutions presented contain a minimum participation of 20% from renewable sources, with or without energy storage.

The contribution to CO2 reduction will be considered in the ranking of the winning bid. This is the first time that this solution has been required in this type of auction.

“This auction aims to reduce dependence on diesel oil in Isolated Systems, which is still responsible for more than 60% of current generation, the emission of greenhouse gases and, consequently, the expenditure on the CCC (Fuel Consumption Account)”, he declared minister Alexandre Silveira, in a press release.

Isolated Systems are regions of Brazil disconnected from the SIN (National Interconnected System), covering parts of the states of Acre, Amapá, Amazonas, Pará, Rondônia and Roraima, as well as Fernando de Noronha Island (PE). Around 3 million consumers in these regions depend on diesel oil for electricity, albeit precariously.

In this auction, energy and power will be contracted for 15 municipalities in the states of Amazonas and Pará. The contracts will last 15 years, with supply starting between 2027 and 2030.

See the power required for each batch:

  • Lot 1 – 31 MW (AM);
  • Lot 2 – 37,4 MW (AM);
  • Lot 3 – 9,9 MW (AC);
