Auren Energia has signed a solar energy self-production contract with Minasligas, a company specializing in the production of ferroalloys and silicon metal. The agreement, valid until 2040, provides for the supply of solar energy to Minasligas' industrial plant, located in Pirapora (MG).
In 2025, the contracted volume will be 22 MWmed, increasing to 33 MWmed from 2026 onwards, a level that will be maintained until the end of the contract.
The energy will come from the Sol de Jaíba photovoltaic park, an Auren project located in the north of Minas Gerais. The contract will be operated under the APE (Self-Production by Equivalence) model, in which the consumer becomes part of the generator's corporate structure, benefiting from reduced charges and greater cost predictability.
The agreement also includes the issuance of I-RECs (International Renewable Energy Certificates), a tool used to prove the sustainable origin of energy and meet companies’ ESG goals.
With 629 MWac of installed capacity, Sol de Jaíba began commercial operations in September 2024, after an investment of R$2,1 billion. According to Auren, the complex was structured from the beginning to meet contracts in the self-production model, focused on large consumers in the industrial sector.
“Auren Energia has a history of self-production contracts in several of the company’s other assets, and now we are moving forward with promising partnerships for the Sol de Jaíba project. Today, only 15% of the energy produced by the park is available for new partnerships,” says Eduardo Diniz, Auren’s sales director.
“The increase in hiring reflects the interest of national companies in investing in better market practices in the long term. From a business perspective, we see that this is a regime that adds value to the brand portfolio, generates solidity and optimizes investments. In other words, it is an initiative that impacts the entire commercial structure and is integrated with the promotion of ESG policies,” he concludes.
With around 90% of its current energy matrix based on renewable sources — hydro, wind and solar —, Minasligas sees the contract with Auren as an opportunity to consolidate its decarbonization and operational efficiency strategy.
“Energy management is a central pillar of our strategy, which is why we constantly seek investment opportunities, innovations and energy contracting models to generate value for the business. This reflects our commitment to sustainability and our essential role in finding solutions for the longevity of our company,” highlights Minasligas CEO Henrique Simões Zica.
