With the accelerated growth of solar energy in Brazil, the photovoltaic module market has expanded and brought a wide variety of products to the country, each with specificities regarding technology, manufacturing processes or even raw materials. In this sense, Helius Sunlink PV, a pioneer in the manufacture of solar panels, understands that beyond the technical characteristics, there are physical characteristics that differentiate one module from another, from the choice of frame material, presence of specification labels, Inmetro certification and serial number, type and size of cells, type, thickness and length of cables, material of the front and back of the module, among others. For the manufacturer, every detail is designed to offer high-performance, high-quality solutions, from research, development and production, including rigorous Flash Test and Electroluminescence quality tests, which transform each of these elements into high-quality modules with competitive advantages. Here are five characteristics of photovoltaic modules that should be considered, as they impact the durability/longevity and price of the photovoltaic modules. Solar panel frames - aluminum. Anodized aluminum is the most common material used in solar panel frames. The anodizing process gives aluminum increased resistance to corrosion and wear. But why aluminum? Aluminum has a rate of expansion that allows the material to expand and contract without compromising the structural integrity of the panel. This flexibility is essential so that thermal stress, caused by expansion and contraction, does not weaken the joints and fastening points of the panel over time. In Helius panels, the frames are 30mm thick. Regarding installation, it is recommended that the modules be installed with a minimum distance of 5 mm between modules, to ensure that thermal expansion does not affect their operation. Helius understands this importance and uses three specific types of labels on its products in Brazil: technical identification labels, serial number/barcode labels, and ENCE labels, all located on the back of the modules. The identification labels contain information such as rated power, rated current, rated voltage, short-circuit current (measured under standard test conditions), maximum operating voltage, dimensions, etc. They are essential to provide quick and reliable information about the product. Serial number/barcode labels contain an encrypted individual serial number. All Helius products have this identification with the aim of ensuring the authenticity of the modules on the market, protecting the manufacturer's panels against counterfeiting, offering security to the customer. In addition, the serial number is essential for validating the product warranty. The ENCE labels, or National Energy Conservation Label, provide the official energy efficiency rating of the panel based on a standardized metric recognized throughout the country. By including the ENCE label, Helius demonstrates its commitment to energy efficiency standards and national and international regulations. Therefore, when choosing and installing a photovoltaic module, it is important to know and identify the labels and pay close attention to the information described on them, ensuring your safety and the integrity of the product. Cell Type and Size: Throughout its 20-year history, Helius products have been developed and manufactured using various cell types, such as polycrystalline, PERC-type cells, N-Type cells, etc. In the article "20 Years of Helius," the manufacturer shares the evolution of the modules over the years. Another determining factor in the efficiency of the modules is the size of the cells used. With the advancement of technology and through the expertise of the Helius Research and Development team, Helius modules began to be manufactured with rectangular half-cells, increasing the panel's performance. The 620W Helius Genesis Plus is an example of this. This model uses rectangular half-cells with TopCon technology and delivers an efficiency of 22,95%. Photo: Helius Sunlink PV Cabling The photovoltaic panels feature a unique type of cabling and MC4 connectors, designed for "plug and lock". Since the modules produce direct current energy, if they are disconnected or improperly fitted during operation, the risk of electrical arcs is extremely high, potentially causing damage to the system or even fires. Therefore, Helius advises that the connectors should not be altered or removed to facilitate any other type of connection. As for cable length, Helius has customizable sizes. Eduard Krummenauer, Country Manager of the manufacturer, says that "there are specific projects that require cables of varying lengths." With this insight, we realized an opportunity to customize cable sizes based on customer needs. Currently, we have produced some modules with 2,30m long cables especially for microinverter projects. This makes it easier for the installer to make the system connections, since with longer cables, there is no need to use auxiliary cables. Front and rear module material Another crucial element in the manufacture of a photovoltaic module is the material used on the front and rear parts of the modules. They are responsible for protecting the cells against hail, dust, and any other adverse conditions to which the panel may be subjected. Several factors are essential to ensure that its efficiency and durability are not negatively affected, such as the choice of material that coats the cells. In Helius modules, the use of high-transmission tempered glass, 3,2 mm thick and with a low iron content, ensures maximum solar light capture, designed to meet the highest quality and performance standards, which directly affect the efficiency of the Helius panel. The photovoltaic cell is an element that is very sensitive to impacts or any type of mechanical stress, therefore, being careful about using the appropriate material to cover the cells also makes a difference in terms of the integrity of the module and protection against micro cracking. The Helius quality standard: Although the modules may seem similar at first glance, every detail in the composition of Helius products makes a difference in the efficiency, durability, and reliability that the manufacturer delivers to the customer. The choice of materials, such as high-transmission front glass and anodized aluminum frames, customizable cabling and detailed labels, reflect Helius Sunlink PV's concern in offering technological solutions that meet customer needs with the security of proven Helius quality. With 20 years of experience in the market, being a pioneer in the production of solar panels, Helius demonstrates that innovation and attention to the smallest details are key factors to stand out in the solar sector. Choosing a module goes beyond just looking at its appearance: it's a decision that directly impacts the performance and longevity of the client's investment. Choosing Helius means choosing reliability, quality, innovation, safety, and a solid history of responsibility in the solar energy sector worldwide.
