Banco Banrisul has officially purchased two solar plants as part of its strategy to expand the use of renewable sources in its energy portfolio.
The first plant, located in São Lourenço do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul, is in the process of transferring ownership and will be connected to the CEEE Equatorial grid. The second, under construction in the municipality of Taquara, Rio Grande do Sul, is scheduled for completion in the first half of 2026 and will be connected to the RGE grid.
With these two plants, 411 of the institution's consumer units will begin operating with solar energy through the Free Contracting Environment (ACL). The first phase, beginning in August 2025, will supply 109 consumption points. In 2026, another 302 will be integrated into the project.
By the end of the implementation, 505 Banrisul branches will be using clean energy—equivalent to 78% of the bank's total consumption. This initiative strengthens Banrisul's environmental commitment, which began in 2013 when the institution became a signatory to the UN Global Compact.
In 2021, the company also joined the Brazilian GHG Protocol Program and the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), in addition to following the self-regulation guidelines of Febraban (Brazilian Federation of Banks) for managing social, environmental and climate risks.
Since 2022, the bank has already migrated 94 units to the Free Energy Market, focused on medium-voltage consumption. According to Banrisul President Fernando Lemos, between October 2022 and April 2025, the measure generated savings of R$3,6 million.
With the implementation of the new plants, projected savings exceed R$70 million over the next 15 years. "This result proves that, with intelligent energy consumption management, it is possible to combine economic efficiency with environmental preservation, contributing to a more sustainable bank aligned with the low-carbon economy," he said.
