BNB (Banco do Nordeste) announced the provision of R$65 million to finance equipment aimed at generating solar energy in homes, with resources coming from FNE (Northeast Constitutional Financing Fund).

Between January and August 2024 alone, BNB financed more than R$107 million in residential solar energy projects, serving around four thousand families, according to Vagner Mota, Superintendent of Supervision of the BNB Agency Network.

“The demand for resources has been significant, driven by competitive interest rates and the possibility of a significant reduction in electricity costs (by consumers),” said the professional.

The professional highlights that one of the advantages of financing solar energy systems in Brazil is that, generally, the value of the installments – regardless of the financial institution – tends to be lower than the cost of the electricity bill.

Those interested in finding out more details about Banco do Nordeste's credit lines can visit branches or electronic service channels of the institution.

Financing on the rise

According to data from the ABSOLAR (Brazilian Solar Energy Association), the country currently has almost 3 million photovoltaic systems installed on roofs, facades and small plots of land. Of this total, more than 75% are in homes.

The entity also estimates that almost 40% of solar system sales in Brazil were financed in 2023, confirming the trend of the need that many consumers have for financial protection when purchasing this equipment.

Good evening. It is a shame and an injustice, because this bank does not finance solar energy for other states in Brazil. I have already consulted them and they only serve homes in the Northeast. This is a benefit offered only to people from the Northeast. We in the Southeast do not have any bank of this level to help us. The BNDES published circulars removing homes of individuals from being able to finance this energy. In April/24, we simply were unable to obtain this benefit. The banks are charging exorbitant interest rates, and we do not have the money to pay.
