Photovoltaic module manufacturer Canadian Solar announced today at its headquarters in Ontario that it has been named the winner of two private auctions of photovoltaic plants in Brazil, totaling 393,7 MWp.
The projects, to be built in the states of Pernambuco (190,5 MWp) and Ceará (76,2 MWp), were purchased under a power purchase agreement (PPA – Power Purchase Agreement) lasting at least 15 years. Construction of the plants is scheduled to begin in 2021, with the plants beginning to operate in 2022. Totaling their capacities, the plants will generate close to 598 GWh of energy annually. COPEL (Companhia Paranaense de Energia) was the largest purchaser of energy from plants located in the northeast.
The other 127 MWp announced will be allocated to plants to be built in the state of Minas Gerais, which will enter commercial operation by January 2023. A large part of the energy generated, around 280 GWh annually, will be purchased by the company responsible for distribution in the state, to CEMIG.
The company also announced that the three projects will use bifacial modules, thus showing the market trend towards using this type of technology in large plants.
