To supply motorhomes, bus stops and remote locations with electricity independently, the company CityFreighter has developed a tracker, ensuring maximum energy production.
The mechanics are made with igus® plastics, which provide the solar panels with precise movement, without lubrication and without the need for maintenance, even in adverse weather conditions.
The SolarTracker is approximately 72% more economical than other models on the market, in addition to being the first in the world developed for use in motorhomes, according to the company. The equipment weighs 21 kg and is easy to transport, allowing it to be used at bus stops and remote locations.
The new system features an integrated anemometer, which causes the system to automatically retract in cases of strong winds. In addition, the solution can be extended to a predetermined height to avoid collisions with roof hatches.

Other features
Components from igus® form the heart of the tracker. The PRT-04 slewing ring bearing, for example, enables precise, lubrication-free alignment of the modules in any direction. In addition, printed gears ensure precise angular adjustment of the slewing ring bearing.
According to the company, this always ensures the best angle to the sun, significantly increasing energy production. The module height is adjusted with the help of a robust stainless steel trapezoidal lead screw and the corresponding lead screw nut made of iglidur J high-performance plastic, which works precisely even in variable weather conditions.
To optimize the scissor lift bearings, CityFreighter also uses various self-lubricating bushings and spring washers made from the materials iglidur J, iglidur G and iglidur W300. These components are characterized by their durability, maintenance-free and wear resistance, which makes them ideal for use in harsh environments.
“The igus® components are a decisive factor for our SolarTracker. Their lubrication-free operation, precision and durability enable us to offer a reliable and maintenance-free solution that is not only efficient but also cost-effective,” explained Michael Schoening, CEO of CityFreighter Europe GmbH.
“We are happy to be able to contribute to the development of a pioneering, innovative and sustainable system on the market. We understand the importance of solar energy for the future and we want to increasingly share our expertise with our customers,” highlighted Marcelo Pimenta, CEO of igus Brazil and LATAM.
