A Covabra supermarket chain announced the investment in installation of two photovoltaic plants, located in the Distribution Center of Sumaré (SP) and in the unit Limeira (SP), in the interior of the state of São Paulo.
The project is to execute the Novabrico Solar Energy and should serve as a basis for the expansion study for other units in the network, which is distributed across 11 cities in the interior of São Paulo. The facilities came into operation at the beginning of June.
In Limeira, the generation capacity will be able to meet around 45% of the store's needs. At the Distribution Center, in Sumaré, the solar energy generated by the plant will meet up to 25% of the energy needs.
According to José Antônio dos Santos, director of the Covabra network, the company seeks to contribute to the environment, reducing gas emissions.
“The use of solar energy presents a financial advantage in the medium term, but the most important thing is that it is clean energy, which is renewable and does not cause pollution through the emission of substances”, says the businessman.
According to Novabrico, the company responsible for executing the project, the expectation is that Covabra will avoid the emission of 730.000 kg of CO2 per year.
