The CI (Infrastructure Commission) of Senate approved, this Tuesday (11), two requests summoning the general director of ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency), Sandoval Feitosa, to provide clarifications on the tariff policy in the state of Amapá.

The requests were filed by senators Randolfe Rodrigues (PT) and Lucas Barreto (PSD). The PT member requested the hearing to provide accounts and clarifications on the increase in the electricity tariff in Amapá, proposed by ANEEL at the end of last year.

Barreto requested information on the energy tariff policy practiced since the privatization of CEA (Amapá Energy Company) and the 2024 annual tariff adjustment of Equatorial Energia. “The population of Amapá has not yet forgotten last year’s attempt at an Extraordinary Tariff Review, which would have increased energy bills by an average of 44,41%. In 2023, tariffs had an average adjustment of 36%,” said the PSDB member.

According to him, the criterion adopted by ANEEL to calculate these adjustments is “incomprehensible for families in Amapá and for the more than 230 thousand energy consumers”, he highlighted.

Rodrigues, in turn, also recalled the “widespread blackouts” that occurred last year in Amapá, and questioned the increase in energy in the face of difficulties in providing the service. “How can a state that produces more than it consumes pay for the most expensive energy in the country? Where is there justice in this? Once again, ANEEL appears to be giving in to pressure from the concessionaire CEA,” said the parliamentarian.

The Senate Infrastructure Committee has not yet set a date for the public hearing, but the routine in the House is to contact authorities to check a suitable date in common.

In a note, the ANEEL said that whenever invited, it will be available to the Federal Senate and also to the Chamber of Deputies to provide information necessary to monitor the Agency's performance. “We would like to point out that the Agency has already expressed its views to both the Federal Senate and the Chamber of Deputies reinforcing this principle,” the agency reported.
