Brazil has surpassed the mark of 5 million CUs (consumer units) in the DG (distributed generation) segment, according to data released by ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency) this Monday (17).
Currently, the installed capacity of this modality already exceeds 37,6 GW, with more than 3,3 million systems connected to the distribution network of concessionaires throughout the country. Solar energy dominates the sector, representing more than 99% of existing connections.
Residential consumers are primarily responsible for the adoption of distributed generation, accounting for 80% of the plants in operation (2,7 million units). The commercial sector represents 10% of the installations (333,4 thousand units), while the rural class accounts for 9% (287,4 thousand units).
First two months of the year
In the first two months of the year, more than 195 thousand consumer units began to benefit from distributed generation – which totaled 128,2 thousand new installations in the period, totaling a growth of 1,4 GW in installed capacity.
In February alone, 614 MW were added through 59 thousand new plants, almost all of which were solar, with the exception of two wind farms.
Among the states, São Paulo led the expansion in the two-month period, both in the number of systems installed and in added power, with 21.743 new plants and 192 MW connected to the grid.
Goiás was second in terms of power expansion in January and February, with 150 MW, followed by Minas Gerais, with 143 MW. In terms of number of installations, Minas Gerais was in second place, with 11.967 new plants, followed by Mato Grosso, with 10.136 installations.
