Distributed generation in Brazil increased by 77,83% in the first half of 2020 compared to the same period last year. This is what an exclusive survey carried out by the Canal Solar based on data from ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency).

The growth of DG in the country goes against the performance of the Brazilian economy, which this year is expected to see a 6% drop in GDP, according to projections by Ipea (Institute for Applied Economic Research), subordinate to the Ministry of Economy.

Still according to the balance of the Canal Solar, from January to June 2019, 544.193 kW of installed power was recorded in the country. In the first half of this year, this number was 956.807 kW, a difference of 412.614 kW.

Ronaldo Koloszuk, Chairman of the Board of ABSOLAR (Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy), highlights that this increase is the result of consumer confidence in solar energy as a source of investment.

“Distributed generation continues to grow because consumers realized that it is a way to reduce costs and expenses. Photovoltaic energy brings autonomy and security to the consumer, whether commercial, industrial or residential. Furthermore, with the solar source, the consumer is not at the mercy of yellow or red flags and increases from energy distributors”, highlights the executive.

The survey also showed that the region with the highest installed power in the first half of this year in the country was the Southeast, with 428.840 kW. In second place was the South region, with 200.105 kW, and in third place was the Northeast, with 161.746 kW.

Koloszuk emphasizes that the next semester should surpass the growth recorded in the first six months of this year. “The growth trend of distributed photovoltaic generation is expected to increase in the second half of the year, as the issue of fear of investing begins to be overcome and people already see photovoltaic solar energy as one of the best investments to make in Brazil”, he concludes.
