Zamp Energy, a company belonging to the group that operates the Burger King, Popeyes, Starbucks, and Subway chains in Brazil, has officially become part of... agent roster from CCEE (Chamber of Electric Energy Commercialization) in the category of energy trading company.

The membership was approved by the entity's board of directors, with operations beginning on June 1, 2026. By joining CCEE, the company gains more autonomy to manage its energy strategy, being able to negotiate contracts directly in the Free Market, manage its energy consumption, and develop its own generation projects.

The move also expands the company's scope of operations in the electricity sector, allowing it not only to purchase energy to power its operations, but also to trade energy and manage assets related to the segment.

The company's entry into the ACL (Free Contracting Environment) occurs a few months after shareholders approved changes to its bylaws, authorizing self-production and electricity trading activities in the wholesale and retail markets.

How does a company enter the Free Energy Market?

To operate directly in the Free Energy Market, a company needs to become an agent of CCEE, the entity responsible for registering and accounting for energy purchase and sale transactions in the country.

The first step is to define the type of participation. Depending on the strategy adopted, the company can join as a consumer, generator, trader, or self-producer of energy.

After fulfilling the regulatory and financial requirements demanded by the sector, the company gains access to the free contracting environment, where it can negotiate energy directly with generators, traders, and other market agents.

In the case of Zamp Energy, the registration occurred in the trading company category. This allows the company not only to acquire energy for its operations, but also to negotiate contracts, manage portfolios, and develop its own buying and selling strategies in the Free Market.

This trend has become increasingly common among large business groups, especially after the opening of the free market to consumers connected to medium and high voltage in January 2024.
