The price of Brazilian consumers' electricity bills will be the subject of a public hearing in the Chamber of Deputies. The meeting is scheduled for December 5, at 10 am, in the Mining and Energy Committee. The topic "Why are the electricity bills so expensive?" was suggested by Congressman Hugo Leal, author of the motion that called for the public hearing.
Among the authorities summoned are the number two at the MME (Ministry of Mines and Energy), Gentil Nogueira; the general director of ANEEL (National Electric Energy Agency), Sandoval Feitosa; and the president of the Board of Directors of CCEE (Electric Energy Commercialization Chamber), Alexandre Ramos.
Representatives from TCU (Federal Court of Auditors), IPEA (Institute of Applied Economic Research), IDEC (Consumer Defense Institute), CONACEN (National Council of Electric Energy Consumers) and ABRADEE (Brazilian Association of Electric Energy Distributors) were also invited.
ABRACE (Association of Large Energy Consumers and Free Consumers), ABRAGE (Brazilian Association of Electric Energy Generating Companies), ABRACEEL (Brazilian Association of Energy Traders), FGV (Getúlio Vargas Foundation), UFRJ (Federal University of Rio de Janeiro) and UFSC (Federal University of Santa Catarina).
“All Brazilians know how much it costs to maintain their homes and businesses, with increasingly higher prices. And the electricity bill has an impact on quality of life and the final cost of products and services. Therefore, it is essential to discuss what impacts the final cost of the electricity bill and what we can do to prevent this cost from increasing or decreasing,” stated Hugo Leal.
“This public hearing is an important step to promote debate, listen to experts and evaluate the best approach in the search for a better energy distribution service for the population and the improvement of legislation, with the consequent reduction in the electricity bill”,
